Mr. Koshi Nishida
Director and Chief Accountant
Denso Manufacturing
Vietnam Co., Ltd.

Denso focuses on the production and exportation of various automotive parts. They have many international clients, including Toyota, BMW, and many others. Denso was first established in Japan and now, it also has a division in Vietnam. Built on October 2001, and located in Than Long Industrial Park, Dong Anh dist. Hanoi, Vietnam, the company is 95% owned by Denso International Asia Pte. Ltd. and is 5% owned by Sumitomo Corporation.

Mr. Koshi Nishida, the Director and Chief Accountant of Denso Vietnam, acknowledges that Vietnam is a developing company. With this, he believes their production may be affected negatively. To prevent such occurrence, he said that they give competitive salaries – although it is a standard in Vietnam to give low wages. Further, they motivate their employees to give quality results and avoid making defective products as much as possible. He explained that their employees train in Japan because their parent company is in the previously mentioned country. This contributes to the diligence and skills of their workers. The nature of the job in Denso involves putting small automotive parts together. This requires patience and diligence. For the most part, they have a majority of female employees. A tour guide said that this is because they believe that women are more patient and diligent. Also, women have smaller and thinner fingers which are perfect for assembling parts. One of the most important rules in the company is cleanliness. Second to this is being organized with all the tools that they use.

Given the experience of being in Denso, and talking with Mr. Nishida, the group learned about the importance of incentive and motivation for the workers to create high quality products. The group also learned that having a perfect production is not impossible as long as the workers are well trained and motivated. Further, reviewing problems and continuously searching for better solutions are imperative to ensure the success of a company.

“We always say to our employees that quality is number one...”
