Summary of Alasdair Thompson’s Presentation.

Mr Alasdair Thompson showed us vividly what years of working with ABAC and attending CEO summits had taught him about the implications and benefit that APEC was bring to the Asia pacific region.

Alasdair Thompson clearly expressed his strong belief in the importance of the Asian pacific region in the future, as continuing to be the area dominating world trade.

The main part of Alasdair’s presentation focused around his great appreciation for the Asian nations. Delegate a unified backing and drive behind the focus of business of the future. Alasdair was clear on making the point that governments role was to govern, to let business get on with the role of playing the game, making profits and paying taxes to the government.

The last point that Alasdair made was the importance of knowledge. He stated that earlier in the century, we traded goods. In the middle and later, we traded services and currently and for a foreseeable time in the future, we will be trading knowledge.

Alasdair saw the value of an event such as the VTM 2006, in educating today’s young people, to ensure this trade of knowledge can flourish in New Zealand.
