Brian Lynch

Achievements

Past
Mr Lynch started his career as a secondary school teacher. He then worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1964, gaining experience in the workings of worldwide trade. After being posted to the United Nations in New York, London and Singapore he became the Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Transport. By this time he had gained the knowledge and experience to realise that clear objectives and his staff play an important role in his being able to achieve the goals he sets. From 1992 until 2003, Brian Lynch was the CEO of the Meat Industry Association.

Present
Currently his involvements include being the Chairman of the Trade Liberalisation Network, board member of the New Zealand Food Safety Authority as well as the director of the New Zealand Institute of International Affairs. Working also as the Senior Advisor and alternate member of ABAC, he was appointed chairman of HEA (Horticulture Export Authority). As an ABAC member from the New Zealand Economy he gives recommendations to the APEC leaders that will work best for the New Zealand trade industries.

Future
He wishes to see the advancement of free trade to a state where industries will be able to operate in an environment that makes business easy. For a plan B, just in case the WTO round fails, New Zealand will need to organise FTA’s with any economies within the Asia-Pacific region willing to.

Our View
We were all pleased with how the interview turned out. He was very informative and gave adequate information in answer to any questions that we had.
