Purpose History Programs APEC Sponsors ASIA-PACIFIC ECONOMIC COOPERATION (APEC)

The Virtual Trade Mission works hand-in-hand with the goals and objectives of APEC, the primary regional vehicle for promoting open trade and practical economic cooperation.
"Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) was established in 1989 in response to the growing interdependence among Asia-Pacific economies. Begun as an informal dialogue group, APEC has since become the primary regional vehicle for promoting open trade and practical economic cooperation. Its goal is to advance Asia-Pacific economic dynamism and sense of community. Today, APEC's 21 member economies had a combined Gross Domestic Product of over US$18 trillion in 1999 and 43.85 percent of global trade." INTERACTIVE ANNUAL @APEC PROGRAM
!

The Virtual Trade Mission Foundation has been an active participant in the annual APEC CEO Summit since 1998. @APEC connects high school students from the United States and other APEC Member Economies with the Heads of State, government officials and CEOs that attend the annual Summit by allowing students to interact with them one-on-one through an interactive and media-enriched interview program. President Clinton has thanked the VTM for their efforts to expand the awareness of international opportunities for high school students across the country and throughout APEC.
The VTM has brought students to Kuala Lumpur in 1998, New Zealand in 1999, and Brunei Darussalam in 2000. The @APEC 2000 program was part of the VTM’s "California Global Classroom" co-sponsored by the Office of Governor Gray Davis and Apple. Presently the VTM is preparing for the @APEC 2001 program at the APEC CEO Summit set for Shanghai. Future CEO Summits are scheduled for Mexico in 2002, Thailand in 2003, and Chile in 2004.
